David Mowry was part of the burgeoning and
influential music scene that developed in Woodstock, New York,
during the sixties and seventies. In 1977 moved to Philadelphia
to study with a Sufi master. David works intuitively in many
styles and situations, but never loses his passion for musical
roots and his classic Texas / Chicago folk-blues
interpretations.
Jeff Sheard Vocals & percussion
Played with many of Canada’s top
blues, jazz and country artists, Jeff combines drum-set and
hand-drum styles. His lead vocals and harmonizing are at the
heart of the Illumination sound. A student of the Sufi path for
over twenty years, Jeff says “There’s always an
element of inner work in music, but what a blessing to let it
shine through unconcealed!”
Kabir Green Vocals, guitar, banjo, twelve string guitar
At Haverford College, Kabir joined
everything musical from Renaissance choral groups to the house
funk band. Leader & arranger of the a cappela group S-Chords,
Kabir brings a wide-ranging musicality to his arrangements of
the band’s signature harmonies, and an open spirit to his
vocals. Kabir is also working on theatrical sound tracks.
Michael Green Lyrics, spoken word
Creator of The Illuminated Rumi, and prime
mover behind the band. Sometimes onstage to read poetry and
find doors into the illuminated dimension of Sufi mysticism. “Synapses crackle.. when he talks,” said The Philadelphia Inquirer. “He displays the definition of imagination:
intelligence having fun. ...his voice is resonant, his
language eloquent. He makes the task of trying to know the
unknowable seem feasible.”
Bill Zinno upright bass (not shown)
Bill started his musical life in a Beatles
Band, fell in love with the upright bass and now plays in the
Delaware Symphony Orchestra. He sometimes sits in with a local
jazz bands, but never revealed his secret love for American
sacred-roots music until joining the Illumination Band.

The Illumination Band is sometimes joined by musicians, like
Shams Kairys, violin; Amira Dvorah, flute, tablas, guitar;
Clare Maher, cello; Dale Melton, keyboards; Wah!, violin
& vocals; Hamza el Elliot, percussion; Coleman Barks,
reading & vocal harmony; and special guest Shakina
Reinhertz, mystical dance.
