Every action has an underlying intention.
When beginning anything important it is a worthy practice to
align that intention with the highest, deepest and most
expansive possibilities. This might be called a sanctification.
To do this in Rumi’s tradition, we would say
“In the Name of God, Boundlessly
Compassionate, Infinitely Merciful”
These words are the Bismillah prayer said to
have been taught to the noble Prophet by an angelic presence.
Above is an illuminated Bismin rendered in Hebrew by the Sufi calligrapher
Muhammad Abdul Kadir. It bears witness that the Prophet came,
like blessed Jesus before him, as a truth-witness in the
ancient line of the Hebrew prophets.
